ISEA Seeking Public Comment on Z308.1 Revision

ISEA is soliciting public comments of the next edition of the American National Standard - Minimum Requirements for Workplace First Aid Kits,  ANSI/ISEA Z308.1.

The ISEA First Aid Group, in cooperation with leading industry stakeholders, has developed this standard, updating and expanding ANSI/ISEA Z308.1-2003 to provide guidance for minimum performance levels of first aid kits for all types of uses and situations in the work environment.  Member companies of the ISEA First Aid Group include ARI, Jackson Safety, 3M Company, MSA and North Safety Products.

Kits in compliance with this standard will provide a basic range of products to deal with most types of injuries encountered in the workplace. The assortment of required contents was developed based on treatment for the following potential injuries: major wounds, minor wounds (cuts and abrasions), minor burns and eye injuries.

Significant updates incorporated into this version include the designation of new kit types, expansion of the required supply list to include a first aid guide and antibiotic treatment, and a redesign of the product label. The recommended supplies list has been expanded to include hand sanitizers in response to updated hygiene protocols. The kit label has been redesigned to draw specific attention to fact that each workplace is unique and, as such, may necessitate the availability of additional first aid supplies.

The public review period closes September 22, 2008.  To obtain a review copy of the draft revision, contact Cristine Fargo at ISEA, 703-525-1695. Review copies are $25 each.
