2017 National Safety Stand-Down to Stop Fall Fatalities and Injuries

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)’s annual Safety Stand-Down initiative to prevent slip and fall accidents in construction is set for May 8-12, 2017. Created to raise fall hazard awareness across the country in an effort to stop fall fatalities and injuries, the Safety Stand-Down is a voluntary event designed for employers to talk to employees about safety. OSHA indicates any workplace can hold a stand-down by taking a break to focus on “fall hazards” and reinforcing the importance of “fall prevention.”

OSHA is partnering with key groups to assist the effort, including: the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health; the National Occupational Research Agenda, the National Safety Council, state consultation programs and more. Additionally, ISEA member companies are participating and will be conducting training and several initiatives to align with the Safety Stand-Down.

ISEA Resources:

The guide has been extensively updated to reflect new regulations and standards, particularly the November 2016 OSHA rules for walking-working surfaces and fall protection in general industry, and changes to the ANSI/ASSE Z359 standards.

ISEA and leading safety equipment manufacturers have joined together to standardize the solutions available to protect workers from objects falling from heights. A construction accident lawyer is also an important advocate who can ensure that you and your family are able to protect all of your legal rights.
