Hands-On Training
Throughout the QSSP-A course, we’ll take advantage of ENSA’s world-class training facilities. On June 30, you’ll experience a full day of hands-on training in work at heights and confined space practices, including emergency planning, rescue strategies, and equipment needs. Wear your work boots, and be ready to gear up.
At the end of the day, you’ll be able to:
- Identify the need to recognize the correct vein of approach within emergency planning for work at heights.
- Distinguish when a written fall protection plan is mandatory and what an emergency action plan comprises.
- Illustrate where reliance on essential services to provide an effective and prompt rescue may not be the correct response based on the work environment.
- Distinguish which questions must be answered when developing a work at height emergency response plan.
- Demonstrate the ability to distinguish the limitations under preparation when deciding a rescue strategy
- Explain the considerations (level of training, response time, medical, method of rescue and evacuation) within rescue planning for non-remote and remote work locations.
- Demonstrate the ability to approach and establish the correct equipment needs for emergency response based on the work environment.
- Distinguish OSHA’s approach to confined spaces and the eight characteristics inherent to confined spaces.
- Identify OSHA’s viewpoint for trenching and its relationship to confined spaces in the workplace.
- Identify the legal relationship between OSHA Regulations and company policy.
- Associate the need for effective communication and evaluation of hazards with the need for engineered controls when permitting.
- Describe the importance of possessing specialized knowledge and training necessary for the identification of hazardous conditions during the various phases and activities of confined space work. And the importance of ensuring all pertinent hazardous control questions are asked for each phase and activity.
- Identify the primary failures as noted by OSHA under risk recognition for use of gas detection, ventilation, respiratory protection and fall protection equipment, and special configurations. And the possible improvement solutions for those risk reduction measures.
- Recognize how equipment plays a role within the eight characteristics attributed to confined space determination.
- Discuss the nature of physical and safety hazards and their basic control activities.
- Apply the confined space permitting system and its document requirements to ensure a safe and effective work environment.
- Explain the importance of controlling atmospheric hazards through the use and application of atmospheric testing instruments.
- Comprehend the selection criteria for direct reading portable atmospheric monitors and the necessary approach within choosing a monitor for the company program and confined space environment.
- Understand ventilation is the most important engineering control within confined space entry and the high risk of entering a permit space without ventilation.
- The Student will be able to comprehend and apply understanding in the use care and selection of Non-RAS Respirators used within the workplace.
- Selecting PPE with considerations towards compatibility (wearer, environment, task) for vertical entry and retrieval operations
- Identify the hazards and concerns associated with posting Safety Signs under a PRCS program.
Course Details
In-person class size is limited to 40 participants to enhance each attendee’s learning experience and ensure an effective student/instructor ratio. All registrants must hold a current QSSP designation, and have at least 5 years of safety industry or safety sales experience.
*Certificate criteria: Attendees must be present for all scheduled days and times, complete all course work, and successfully pass the competency exam (72% of higher) to earn the QSSP Advanced designation. To give participants maximum flexibility, the knowledge exam will be online and timed. Registration also includes continental breakfast and lunch.
Redesignation: To maintain an active QSSP designation, every 5 years students must complete a QSSP redesignation course, as well as 7 hours of continuing education in health or safety (to be completed between the after the current certificate’s issuance date and prior to the expiration date. Evidence of this must be submitted at the time of redesignation.)
