ISEA is urging the Biden Administration and members of Congress to help protect themselves from COVID variants with N95 respirators, while also setting an example for American workers and their families.
Last week, ISEA members met with the Administration’s COVID-19 response team to discuss further efforts safety equipment manufacturers can take to help end this pandemic. The PPE industry noted one of the many challenges Americans face during this pandemic is to know they are being fully protected by using the right mask, especially with Omicron, and the Delta variant still upon us.
In a January 18 letter to President Biden, ISEA respectfully urged the president to wear a NIOSH-approved respirator and establish an internal policy, or issue an executive order, urging those in the Administration to always and only use N95 respirators.
Interim President Stephen Gardner said the President’s “leadership on this issue… will make Americans aware of the most protective masks, which are NIOSH-approved respirators, and reinforce prevailing mask science.”
ISEA also sent letters to leaders in Congress, including:
- House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy
- Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell
- Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi
- Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer
ISEA asked the Congressional leaders to consider the resounding impact they could have on this issue, urging them to encourage all members to always and only wear N95 respirators.
Gardner wrote, “Your leadership and the symbolism it will demonstrate, will help steer the American people into being more cognizant of the appropriate mask they should use and reinforce the prevailing mask science.”
