Last week, President-elect Joe Biden debuted the Biden-Harris transition platform. The seven-point plan outlines Biden’s COVID-19 strategy, which includes a section on personal protective equipment (PPE). The plan states that his administration will give “states, cities, tribes, and territories the critical supplies they need.”
Biden plans to use the Defense Production Act (DPA) to increase the production of PPE so that the national supply exceeds demand and stores and stockpiles are fully replenished. He plans to immediately build a flexible American-sourced and manufactured capability to ensure the US is not dependent on other countries for critical materials.
Additionally, the Biden administration plans to create a “restart package” to assist small businesses by covering the costs of PPE and other items to operate safely.
The Biden transition plan states his administration will work with governors and mayors to implement a nationwide mask mandate. The plan says he will call on Americans to wear a mask when they are around people outside their household, every governor to make masks mandatory in their state, and local authorities to implement a mask mandate to “buttress” state orders.
