Counsellor Deputy Head of Trade Section Delegation of the European Union to the USA

Esther Nieto Hernandez has been a Trade Counsellor for the European Union Delegation in Washington, DC since August 2016. She is the Deputy Head of the EU Delegation’s section dealing with trade and agriculture issues. In this capacity she follows a wide range of topics related to trade and investment between the EU and the US.

Prior to that, she worked since 2008 on trade issues for the European Commission in Brussels. Before joining the North America unit in DG Trade, where she was part of the core EU coordination team for the TTIP negotiations, Esther was a negotiator for both bilateral (India, Canada, African Economic Partnerships) and plurilateral negotiations, with a particular focus on public procurement.

Before joining the European Commission, Esther worked for a Brussels-based leading public affairs and communications company as an advisor on social, environmental and broader EU policy issues.

Esther holds a Master Degree in Political Science – International Relations from the Catholic University of Louvain as well as a Master in Business Administration. She has also a degree on development management.

Esther is a Spanish national. In addition to Spanish, Esther is fluent in English and French.
