Acting Standards Team Lead for the International Trade Administration (ITA) Office of Standards and Intellectual Property (OSIP)
Michael Boyles is the Acting Standards Team Lead for the International Trade Administration (ITA) Office of Standards and Intellectual Property (OSIP). He covers emerging and cross-cutting standards development and policy issues across multiple industries and markets to help ensure access for U.S. industry around the globe.
Michael has over 10 years of experience working on standards-related issues, good regulatory practices (GRPs), and in trade policy discussions, including technical barriers to trade (TBT), GRP, and sector-focused provisions of trade agreements. Michael is actively involved in standard-related work through bilateral dialogues with Brazil and India in projects to advance U.S. policy objectives through the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum Sub Committee on Standards and Conformance (SCSC).
He serves as the Designated Federal Officer (DFO) for the Industry Trade Advisory Committee for Standards and Technical Trade Barriers (ITAC 14) and works with cleared private sector advisors to provide advice on standards and TBT-related issues to the Secretary of Commerce and the United States Trade Representatives. Michael previously managed the Wheeling, West Virginia U.S. Export Assistance Center (USEAC) for the U.S. Department of Commerce and is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh.
