Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is top of mind for most businesses today, and the business of safety is no exception. ISEA members are working with us now to navigate and understand the federal government’s activity in this area, sharing the voice of the industry when discussing the equity of worker safety and protection.
ISEA is currently monitoring two efforts:
- OSHA is expected to issue a proposed PPE fit rule for the construction industry. While OSHA’s general industry PPE regulations requires PPE fit the wearer, there is no similar requirement in the construction regulations. A proposed rule would change that.
- NIOSH announced its commitment to a National Strategy for Equitable PPE Protections for all US workers.
ISEA has and will continue to have a seat at the table to communicate the association’s voice as these issues move forward. At the NIOSH Equitable PPE Protections Workshop in November, ISEA was on a panel to discuss the complexity in writing PPE standards that serve a wide user audience.
This month, we convened product group leaders to address these issues and help ISEA shape the industry’s position and messaging on the topic. Look for more perspective on the safety equipment industry’ position on this complex issue soon.
What are YOUR thoughts? Please feel free to share your experiences and ideas on the topic of DEI in safety. To stay united, all voices must be heard. You can reach us at info@safetyequipment.org.
