Keeping Workers Safe
Workers around the world are faced with health and safety issues, challenges, and hazards everyday while on the job. It is the role of the employer to help keep workers safe by minimizing risk and providing training, education, and safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).Â
PPE is equipment worn to minimize exposure to hazards that cause serious workplace injuries and illnesses. These injuries and illnesses may result from contact with chemical, radiological, physical, electrical, mechanical, or other workplace hazards. Â
PPE includes safety products such as gloves, safety glasses and goggles, protective footwear, earplugs or muffs, hard hats and helmets, respirators, coveralls and full body suits, high-visibility vests and garments, and so much more. Safety equipment includes first aid kits, emergency eyewash and shower stations, gas detection instruments, safety signage, safety cutting devices, and more.
Employers are required to provide PPE that

- is appropriate for all hazards presentÂ
Employers are required to train workers using PPE to know:
- when it’s necessary
- what products are necessary
- how to properly put it on, adjust, wear, and remove
- limitations of the equipment
- proper care, maintenance, lifespan, and disposal of the equipment
