Fall Protection Worker Protections

Fall protection encompasses a wide range of equipment and systems, including overhead anchorage and anchorage strength, horizontal lifeline systems, harness attachments, self-retracting line positioning, twin-leg lanyards, tie-back applications, post-fall suspension, and much more. In order to ensure Safety at Heights, every employer that sends workers to perform tasks at heights should have a comprehensive program for fall protection and dropped objects prevention.

Federal Standard and Regulation

Fall protection is required in numerous OSHA regulations, and the equipment is made to comply with national and international performance standards.

American National Standards

The ANSI/ASSP Z359 fall protection and fall restraint standards address fall protection equipment and systems for climbing, work positioning, fall arrest, rescue, evacuation and other fall hazards. These standards also address training, and how to identify and abate hazards to prevent injuries when working at height.

The ABCs of Fall Protection

There are three vital components that make up a complete fall protection system. These are the ABC’s of fall protection:
A. Anchorage/Anchorage Connector
Anchorage: Commonly referred to as a tie-off point (Example: I-beam)
Anchorage Connector: Used to join the connecting device to the anchorage. (Example: cross-arm strap)
B. Body Wear
The personal protection equipment worn by the worker. (Example: full-body harness)
C. Connecting Device
The critical link which joins the body wear to the anchorage/ anchorage connector.
(Example: shock absorbing lanyard or retractable lifeline)
