Heat Stress Solutions Worker Protections

From the trenches and tarmacs, fields and factories, highways and byways, docks and DCs, ISEA research has shown that over 90 million workers in the U.S. are exposed to hazardous temperatures that can and have led to severe health consequences.

Heat stress occurs when the body’s means of controlling its internal temperature starts to fail. Once the body’s temperature reaches 99.7° F, heat stress has begun; by 104° F, it becomes susceptible to severe damage or death. Proper preventative action against heat stress involves a mix of engineering, administrative and work practice controls, as well as the use of cooling PPE.
