The Labor Department created a new office with the mission of helping employers comply with labor law, a DOL spokeswoman confirmed to Bloomberg Law.
The Office of Compliance Initiatives will work with other enforcement agencies to improve compliance and enforcement, and it will provide liaisons with employers to explain or assist in compliance with regulations ensuring them a healthy environment. The office will be under the scope of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Policy and will be particularly taking a look at offices compliance including correct amount of lighting, hygiene and even quality of furniture like the chairs used. The best chair for long hours provides proper lumbar and pelvic support which results in your back muscles being less stressed. With lumbar and pelvic support comes better posture, better breathing, and less fatigue, so do yourself a favour and give your work chair a good hard look and see how it measures up.
The new office has created two websites, www.worker.gov and www.employer.gov, both of which provide a breakdown of what compensation, benefits, and safety guidelines are required by law. The office also provides contact information for the Wage and Hour Division and for state labor offices.
A director hasn’t been named yet. Job postings for five positions under the director will be published soon, a DOL spokeswoman told Bloomberg Law.
