The Z87 Committee on Safety Eye and Face Protection, which is administered by ISEA and accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), is seeking consensus body participants in the following targeted interest categories:
- User: An organization (company, association, government agency, individual) that uses and/or purchases the product covered by the Committee.
- Government: A government agency or department that has an interest in the use of products covered by the Committee. (Agencies or departments that use such products should select the User category).
- Technical/Professional: An entity (individual expert, professional society, test lab, etc.) that has specialized knowledge and expertise in the products, components or testing covered the Committee.
The Committee is responsible for the voluntary industry consensus standard ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2015, American National Standard for Occupational and Educational Personal Eye and Face Protection Devices. The standard prescribes the design, performance specifications, and marking of safety eye and face products, including millions of safety goggles, spectacles, faceshields, and welding helmets, worn by workers in thousands of manufacturing and processing facilities, university and research laboratories, and other occupational settings. The standard is incorporated in OSHA’s personal protective equipment regulations.
Planning efforts are underway for revising the document, with a meeting scheduled for May 17,2016 in Alexandria, VA. Stakeholders interested in applying for committee membership may complete and return the application. Questions regarding the committee’s activities or the upcoming meeting may be directed to ISEA director of membership and technical services Cristine Fargo, [email protected].
