The International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) presented the Ryan-Willson Service Award of Excellence to Jeff Birnker, vice president of technical services at Moldex-Metric, a leading US manufacturer of hearing and respiratory protection in worker safety. The award was presented during the industry’s annual business meeting in Arlington, VA, November 15, 2021.

The Ryan-Willson Award is the highest award given by the North American safety equipment industry and honors those who have had distinguished careers within an ISEA member company and provided their talents to improve the broader industry.

Birkner has served in multiple leadership roles within ISEA for decades, including both chair and vice chair of the hearing and respiratory product groups. In these roles he has worked closely with members and ISEA staff to draft, publish and promote adoption of safety equipment performance standards, as well as educate various stakeholders and audiences on the technical aspects of personal protective equipment (PPE).

“Jeff’s expertise and leadership within ISEA have been invaluable to the global safety equipment industry,” said ISEA President & CEO Charles Johnson. “He is recognized throughout the PPE community as an industry authority, always eager to share any experience and further causes that will help advance worker safety.”

The Service Award of Excellence is presented in memory of J.T. Ryan (MSA) and Thomas Willson (Wilson Products), ISEA’s first and second Chairmen respectively. Much of what ISEA is today, is owed to these original leaders of our industry.
