ANSI is seeking public comments in response to the proposed revision of ANSI/ISEA Z89.1-202X, American National Standard for Industrial Head Protection.
This revision represents an effort to accommodate characteristics of industrial head protection that end-users identified as being important as work environments change, and emerging hazards are identified.
The core performance requirements remain unchanged. However, this updated version incorporates optional requirements for added protection for both Type I and Type II which includes a chinstrap requirement, retention system effectiveness, and off-center force transmission on the side, front and rear.
Voluntary industry consensus standards recognized by the American National Standards Institute are required to be reviewed every five years to account for improvements in technology, test methods and materials, user needs, and trends in use and application of products covered under the respective standard.
Any comments or questions should be directed, in writing, to standards@safetyequipment.org.
The public review period is open January 2 – February 2, 2026.
