The International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) is seeking public comment on the proposed revision of ANSI/ISEA 107, American National Standard for High-Visibility Safety Apparel (HVSA).
This new edition represents the sixth revision of this widely recognized voluntary consensus standard, which has served as the authoritative guide for the design, performance, and use of high-visibility safety apparel in occupational settings across the United States since its initial publication in 1999.
This latest draft introduces significant updates reflecting the evolving needs of the industry. Key revisions include expanded definitions, updated test methods aligned with current standards, and enhanced evaluation protocols for colorfastness, dimensional stability, and tear resistance. The proposed revision also addresses long-standing fit consistency concerns through updated sizing requirements and more precise measurement guidelines. In addition, the draft introduces optional testing for the Overall Coefficient of Luminous Intensity using ASTM E1501 methodology, supporting improved assessment of nighttime visibility and encouraging continued innovation in garment design.
Public participation is a critical part of the standards development process, and ISEA encourages manufacturers, safety professionals, government representatives, and other stakeholders to review the draft and submit feedback.
The public review period is open through May 11, 2026.
